- Switching multiple heaters
- Mini-Mats or loose cable heaters can be linked together to cover larger areas when required. They are linked in parallel via a floor level junction box.
- Never link the MiniMat in series this changes the resistance of the mats and they will not operate correctly.
- When multiple heaters are linked to one thermostat you can only switch to a maximum of 16 amps or 3600 watts. For instance a MN2500 and MN1550 (Mini-Mat Economy) when linked switch 16.8 amps or 4050 watts. In this instance you have two choices;
(a) have two individual thermostats
(b) switch both heaters with a suitably rated contactor switch.
- Warmfloor Solutions have provided Electrical Packs to provide for all switching capacities – LINK
- Thermostats
- All our thermostats are provided with a FLOOR SENSOR. The floor sensor can be lengthened up to 25 meters from the heated area.
- The location of the actual unit does not necessarily have to be within the room to be heated. Often units are situated in a cupboard.
- Thermostats should never be located within a bathroom or similar where moisture occurs.
- Testing
- Testing is very important and without this stipulation your warranty is invalid.
- It is critical to carry out both a "continuity test" and "insulation resistance test" both prior to and after installation.
- All electrical testing should be carried out by a qualified Part P engineer.
- Invest in our CHECKMATE monitor which sounds an alarm should the conductors be damaged accidentally. LINK
- Fault Finding
- Should a fault occur then we can provide a repair kit. LINK
- If a fault occurs and you are not certain of its location it is possible to find it with Volt stick. Please contact us for further information.
- Adhesives / Floor Screeds
- When tiling directly on top of the heater a flexible adhesive MUST always be used.
- The ideal method of covering the heater is with a self leveling compound. This reduces the opportunity for to damage to the heater when laying your final floor finish.
- Floor Bases
- Warmfloor Solutions Ltd products are suitable for both wooden and concrete bases.
- For a bitumen base you should always separate with either an insulation layer or plywood.
- We would however, highly recommend that all floor bases be insulated and the heater sit directly on top of the insulation board. (See product page on insulation).
- Floor Finishes
- Warmfloor Solutions products can be utilized with all types of floor
finishes.
- Tiles / Marble / Natural Stone
- Laminated flooring
- Engineered flooring**
- Carpets**
** Note with this type of flooring there is an upper surface temperature limit. You must seek advice from the flooring manufacturer as to the suitability for use with under-floor heating.
*** Carpets are not ideal for the use the under-floor heating, however there is no restriction as long as the combined TOG value of the carpet and under-lay does not exceed 1.5
- Running Costs
- Average running cost based upon 150 watts / m2 and usage of approximately 8 hours per day would be 5p / m2 / day.
